The sculptor and painter Manfred Dörner was born in 1945 in Wiesbaden/ Germany.
After an apprenticeship and work as a master craftsman in locksmithing and dental technology, Dörner left the traditional traditional professional life and turned to art. Since then, he has been working as a freelance artist.
Initially, it is the metal sculpture, until he changes the medium: from the monumental sculptures of rusty T-beams and steel sheets to painting on canvas.
The change to painting tartist takes place at the beginning of the 90s simultaneously with his move from Freiburg to Berlin.
Manfred Dörner’s sculptures stand in public places in various cities in Germany; like the monumental chair that looks out onto the Wartburg. His oil paintings are exhibited in Germany and Europe.
He is present at international art fairs such as the renowned ART BASEL and has loyal collectors.
In the five decades of his work, the artist has developed handwriting, with which he has different and often deliberately contradictory motifs and impulses in one work of art. The
tension between strong expression and subtle inner world is the energetic source and power of his work.
In his painting, he contrasts planar layers and diversifies 3-dimensional structures: the smooth on the one hand – the rough on the other. Both visualize the cosmos of the artist’s sensibility. Thus, Dörner’s paintings like to carry out their antipodes on fields that are combined in a tension-rich way: on one surface of the painting he smooths the heaviness of the oil and directly next to it allows the material just its volume. The same applies to his play with the colors and the stroke: monochrome and structured complement each other and emphasize each other in contrast: the one individuality supports the other, and both bundle their energies.
